The term 'European countries' encompasses 30 countries:

• The 27 Member States of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
• The 2 Member States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) that participate to the MUCF work: Norway, and Switzerland.
• The United Kingdom.

The countries are grouped in three European zones (Northern, Central and Southern) following the zoning used by the MUCF.

The MUCF Minor/Major crops database contains different national lists of crop status information available to the MUCF.

This page presents the very same data as the Minor / Major crops table, but aggregated by crop: one line per crop EPPO Code.

• The crop common name (English) and scientific name (Latin or English in case of non-taxonomic name).
• The crop EPPO Code.
• The European countries where the crop is reported as a minor crop, split by European zone.
• The European countries where the crop is reported as a major crop, split by European zone.
• The most recent year of confirmation of the crop status among all countries (last update by the MUCF National Contact Points).

Several European countries may only have provided the MUCF with a list of major crops. In this case, all crops not listed as major can be considered as minor crops in that country.

Not all European countries are incorporated in the MUCF Minor/Major crops database. We intend to gather and incorporate data from further countries in the coming years.

• One line = one crop (identified by its EPPO Code). The country lists are de-duplicated: a country is listed only once per status, even when the national list distinguishes several crop qualifiers (e.g. grown for seed, greenhouse).
• The country lists are split by European zone (Northern, Central, Southern).
• A country may appear in both the minor and the major list of the same crop: this happens when the national list gives a different status depending on the crop qualifier. Use the details button to see the underlying lines.
• Last update is the most recent year of confirmation among all the countries reporting that crop, not a per-country value.
• An empty list simply means that no European country has reported that status for the crop to the MUCF - it does not mean the crop is absent from that country.

The MUCF is responsible for the compilation and dissemination of the crop status data. The Facility provides free and unrestricted access to national data sets provided by several European countries.

Through this database, the MUCF works to ensure that high-quality and nationally comparable data are made accessible to all European countries, thus contributing to building a comprehensive knowledge base on European crop status information. The MUCF is fully committed to promoting open data practices to improve data access, derive additional value from data assets, and maximize data use.
